GOVERNMENT WORKERS

There will come a point when the producers, the people who earn wealth and create jobs, will simply give up. The outrageous growth of "government mentality" is only adding to that frustration and speeding up the inevitable shrug. Here is yet another example of the government dependence mentality ... as if that last story from New York wasn't enough for you.
From 1998 to 2008, compensation for government employees grew by 28.6%. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the private sector. The increase there was 19.3%. The Wall Street Journal points out those government workers earn $1.45 for every dollar you earn doing the same exact job in a private business - a business that is forced to pay taxes and compete for customers.
The Boston Herald points to a local example of this mentality. In Salem, Massachusetts 45 city government employees earn over $100,000. That is up from 34 people who earned that amount just two years ago. Keep in mind that the median household income in Salem is less than $60,000. But those government workers "could pass out drunk in front of a supervisor and still be on the payroll."
But shhhhhhh. Don't say anything. If you do you could be identified as a dangerous, racist, violence-prone right winger!

THE TRUTH ABOUT GUNS

Did you hear the latest about those evil, gun-clinging Americans carrying concealed weapons? Turns out that Americans are far less likely to be killed by a firearm than they were when it was far more difficult to get a concealed-weapons permit. An MSNBC article explains:
In the 1980s and '90s, as the concealed-carry movement gained steam, Americans were killed by others with guns at the rate of about 5.66 per 100,000 population. In this decade, the rate has fallen to just over 4.07 per 100,000, a 28 percent drop. The decline follows a fivefold increase in the number of "shall-issue" and unrestricted concealed-carry states from 1986 to 2006.
Ironically ... the liberal bastion for the nation's strictest gun control laws - Washington DC - has the highest gun homicide rate in the country. It is five times the general rate compared to the rest of the country. The lowest homicide rate is in Utah and you guess it ... most residents in Utah can get a permit to carry a gun without even visiting the state.

RECTAL-CRANIAL INVERSION MOMENT

This moment is brought to you by ... a union leader! Leo W. Gerard of USW International wrote an article, "Change to believe in or focus for hate-mongering?" The use of the words "hate-mongering" should give you an idea of the level of intellect you can expect from the article. Well .. .it was written by a union goon. So for our rectal-cranial inversion moment of the day, I will point you to this quote from Leo:
"Americans must decide what is just and decent in the richest Democracy in the world. They must choose whether to side with the rich and the hate mongers or to align themselves with working people and hope."
Oh there's plenty more that you can read here. Good luck keeping your breakfast down.

MUSLIMS TO BE EXCUSED FROM OBAMACARE?

There is one group of Americans who would not be subject to the individual mandate - the Amish. This is because an individual mandate would go against their religious beliefs. However, under this assumption, there is another group of people in America who would also be exempt from Obamacare's individual mandate - Muslims. This is because Islam considers health insurance (or any risk insurance) to be forbidden.
Mark Tushnet a Harvard law professor points out, "Here the statute is going to say that people who are conscientiously opposed to paying for health insurance don't have to do it where the conscientious objection arises from religion ... And that's perfectly constitutional."
Would you convert to remain free?

The Philosophy of Liberty

The Philosophy of Liberty from:  http://www.jonathangullible.com/frontpage

The epilogue to The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible by Ken Schoolland:
My philosophy is based on the principle of self-ownership. You own your life. To deny this is to imply that another person has a higher claim on your life than you do. No other person, or group of persons, owns your life nor do you own the lives of others. You exist in time: future, present, and past. This is manifest in life, liberty, and the product of your life and liberty.

The exercise of choices over life and liberty is your prosperity. To lose your life is to lose your future. To lose your liberty is to lose your present. And to lose the product of your life and liberty is to lose the portion of your past that produced it.

A product of your life and liberty is your property. Property is the fruit of your labour, the product of your time, energy, and talents. It is that part of nature that you turn to valuable use. And it is the property of others that is given to you by voluntary exchange and mutual consent. Two people who exchange property voluntarily are both better off or they wouldn't do it. Only they may rightfully make that decision for themselves.

At times some people use force or fraud to take from others without wilful, voluntary consent. Normally, the initiation of force to take life is murder, to take liberty is slavery, and to take property is theft. It is the same whether these actions are done by one person acting alone, by the many acting against a few, or even by officials with fine hats and fancy titles.

You have the right to protect your own life, liberty, and justly acquired property from the forceful aggression of others. So you may rightfully ask others to help protect you. But you do not have a right to initiate force against the life, liberty, or property of others. Thus, you have no right to designate some person to initiate force against others on your behalf.

You have a right to seek leaders for yourself, but would have no right to impose rulers on others. No matter how officials are selected, they are only human beings and they have no rights or claims that are higher than those of any other human beings. Regardless of the imaginative labels for their behaviour or the numbers of people encouraging them, officials have no right to murder, to enslave, or to steal. You cannot give them any rights that you do not have yourself.

Since you own your life, you are responsible for your life. You do not rent your life from others who demand your obedience. Nor are you a slave to others who demand your sacrifice.
You choose your own goals based on your own values. Success and failure are both the necessary incentives to learn and to grow.

Your action on behalf of others, or their action on behalf of you, is only virtuous when it is derived from voluntary, mutual consent. For virtue can only exist when there is free choice.
This is the basis of a truly free society. It is not only the most practical and humanitarian foundation for human action; it is also the most ethical.

Problems that arise from the initiation of force by government have a solution. The solution is for people of the world to stop asking officials to initiate force on their behalf. Evil does not arise only from evil people, but also from good people who tolerate the initiation of force as a means to their own ends. In this manner, good people have empowered evil throughout history.

Having confidence in a free society is to focus on the process of discovery in the marketplace of values rather than to focus on some imposed vision or goal. Using governmental force to impose a vision on others is intellectual sloth and typically results in unintended, perverse consequences. Achieving a free society requires courage to think, to talk, and to act - especially when it is easier to do nothing.
